Retaking the “Ancestral Sailing Ships models” contest.

It was a tradition that on the day of “San Juan” (June 24), on the beaches of Margarita, the fishermen would meet without prior notice to run the little boats made of balsa wood nd sails that they built during rest times and decorated with cloth flags. Of course there was music and Rum. The stories lasted until exhaustion. A large crowd gathered and applauded them and were part of the revelry.

During the years from 2012 to 2016, aware that the tradition was dying, the Margarita Marine Museum decided to shape the event and turn it into a Contest. The was only one category with cash prizes for Sailboats, the other prizes were school supplies.

Now for 2023 the Margarita Marine Museum, Reto Caribe Heritage and the Macanao Mayor's Office already agreed to resume the organization of the contest and the first formal meeting is this Thursday, February 2, 2023 in Macanao.
